Sasha Velour Net Worth: How Rich is the Drag Queen Actually?
Alexander Hedges Steinberg also known by the stage name Sasha Velour is an American drag queen and artist. Velour is best known for winning the 9th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. As of 2019, Sasha Velour net worth is estimated to be $2.5 million.
Velour was born on June 25, 1987, in Berkeley, California as the only child of Mark Steinberg and Jane Hedges. Her father is a Russian historian at the University of Illinois while her mother served as the Managing Editor of the Slavic Review.
Steinberg went to University Laboratory High School where she graduated in 2004. After that, she spent time as a part-time security guard at the Russian State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and interned at the Staatsoper in Germany. Steinberg then got her BA in Modern Literature from Vassar College in 2009. She received an MFA in Cartooning in 2013 from the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont. After that, she worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for some years.
Her drag career as a Sasha Velour started while she was at school. She starred in the music video C.L.A.T along with Peppermint, Aja, and Alexis Michelle who also appeared in the 9th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Her transformation was also featured in several publications including Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, and Billboard.
In addition to that, her comics and illustrations have appeared in The Nib, InkBRICK, Comics Workbook Magazine, QU33R, Cicada Magazine, and many others under her stage name Sasha Velour. She also created a series of comics entitled “Stonewall” which shows the story of Stonewall riots from multiple sides.
Sasha Velour tried out for RuPaul’s Drag Race’s eight-season but was not selected for the lineup. In 2017, she was announced as one of the 14 contestants for the 9th season. She was crowned the winner of the season.
After Drag Race, she continued to work as a drag queen and expanded into the fashion industry. She attended Rihanna’s fourth annual Diamond Ball in September 2018.
Regarding her personal life, Velour resides in Brooklyn, New York with partner John Jacob Lee.
