Jake Burton was an American snowboarder. He is remembered forever as the founder of Burton Snowboards. Jake Burton Carpenter net worth before his death is estimated to be $130 million.

Burton was born on April 29, 1954, in El Paso, Texas. He did his high school in Brooks School North Andover in Massachusetts followed by The Marvelwood School in Connecticut. After graduating from school, he enrolled at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Burton had an interest in ski from an early age. He hoped to join the University’s ski team but his competitive skiing career ended after a horrific car accident. After being several years away from college, he continued his studies at New York University where he graduated with a degree in economics.

After graduating from college, his interest once again returned to slopes. By the late-1970s, he joined a small cadre of manufactures who had begun selling snowboards with design features. He is known as the founder of Burton Snowboards. The company specializes in a special line primarily focused on snowboards, bindings, boots, outerwear, and accessories. As of 2009, Burton owned 10 companies that sold snowboards, outwear, and shoes R.E.D., Gravis, Anon, Analog, Forum, Special Blend, Foursquare, Jeenyus, and Channel Islands.

In 2013, Burton Companies had 40-45% of the snowboarding business, which resulted in a total $236 million. The market comprised 35% of the business in the U.S, 30% in Europe and rest in other countries like Japan and Canada.

Regarding his personal life, Burton in 2015 was paralyzed for several weeks with a rare disorder called Miller Fisher syndrome. He required feed tubing and breathing machines and could only move his hands, the New York Times reported.

He was married for more than 30 years to Donna Carpenter. She is also involved in the company. Donna serves as a CEO in the Burton Companies. Jake and Donna have three children together named Tim, George, and Taylor.

Carpenter survived several health scares in his later years including knee injuries, testicular cancer, pulmonary embolism, and Miller Fisher syndrome, a rare and serious neurological disorder. On November 20, 2019, in Vermont, Jake Carpenter died after the reoccurrence of his cancer. He was 65 years old.
