David Bellamy was an English author, broadcaster, botanist, and environmental campaigner. David Bellamy net worth at the time of his death is estimated to be $5 million.

Bellamy was born on January 18, 1933, in London to parents Thomas Bellamy and Winifred May Bellamy. As a child, he wanted to become a ballet dancer, but his large physique stopped him to pursue his dream. He went to Chatsworth Road Primary School followed by Sutton County Grammar School where he studied English Literature and History. He then gained an honors degree in Botany at Chelsea College of Science and Technology and a Ph.D. at Bedford College in 1960.

David’s first work was a laboratory assistant at Ewell Technical College. In 1960, he became a lecturer in the Botany department of Durham University. From 1966 to 1986, he published many scientific papers and books. He achieved wider recognition after his work on the Torrey Canyon oil spill in 1967 when a tanker ran aground off the south-west coast of England. After that, offers for TV work followed him, launching his small-screen career.

He has featured on the program such as Don’t Ask Me. He also presented his own shows including Bellamy on Botany, Bellamy’s Britain, Bellamy’s Europe, and Bellamy’s Backyard Safari. In addition to that, he has also appeared on several TV programs like Songs of Praise, The Lenny Henry Show, Grange Hill, Richard & Judy, Gardeners’ World, Wogan, Blue Peter, Ask Aspel, The Living World, Pebble Mill at One, Blankety Blank, Parkinson, and many others.

Bellamy was the originator, along with David Shreeve and the Conservation Foundation of the Ford European Conservation Awards. He has won several honors and awards during his stellar career. Bellamy was awarded an Honorary Dr. of Science, a degree from Bournemouth University. In 1969, he received The Duke of Edinburgh’s Prize. In 2001, he received the BSAC Colin McLeod Award.

David Bellamy has written at least 45 books in his career. Some of his famous books are Forces of Life, Botanic Action, England’s Last Wilderness, Wilderness Britain?, Trees of the World, and The Bellamy Herbal.

On December 11, 2018, David Bellamy died at the age of 86.
