Lil Nas X began his musical career via SoundCloud in 2018. He uploaded his song ‘Shame’ in May of 2018. After that, he went on to release a series of songs including ‘Donald Trump’, ‘Sonic Shit’, and ‘Thanos’ followed by is 8-track EP ‘Nasarati’ in SoundCloud.

His EP Nasarati was led by single ‘Carry On’. It received huge praise from SoundCloud fans. It has 340K+ spins on SoundCloud and the video has more than 1 million views on YouTube. He then collaborated with rapper Skaiwater on single ‘No Love’. It gathered 100K+ SoundCloud streams in just 4 months.

4. Lil Nas X single ‘Old Town Road’ peaked at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100.

Lil Nas X released the country rap song titled ‘Old Town Road’ on December 3, 2018. It was a massive hit due to the ‘Yeehaw Challenge’ meme on the social media app TikTok. The song debuted at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 and later peaked at Number One.

Following that success, it was announced that he had broken Drake’s record for the most US streams in one week. ‘Old Town Road’ received more than 143 million streams for the week, surpassing Drake’s ‘In My Feeling’ which received 116.2 million streams in one week.

5. His song “Old Town Road” was removed by Billboard from Hot Country Songs chart.

Old Town Road is basically a country rap song. However, it was controversially removed from the Hot Country Songs chart in March 2019 in Billboard Chart.

Billboard told Rolling Stone the song was removed because “it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current form”. A spokesman from Billboard also added, “Billboard’s decision to take of the song off the chart had absolutely nothing to do with the race of the artist”.

On the other side following the controversy, Lil Nas X told Time Magazine that the song is eligible for inclusion on both R&B as well as country music charts.
