1. Tekashi69 had a tough childhood.

Daniel Hernandez aka Tekashi69 was born in New York City to a Mexico mother and a Puerto Rican father. After his father got murdered in 2009, he was raised by his older brother. Following the murder of his father, he was hospitalized for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

He had rough early years and got kicked out of school during the 8th grade. To survive and help his mother he was forced to sell weed. In one interview, the rapper said: “My dad was murdered a block away from my [house]. I was waiting for my pops to come home and he never came home… I just stopped going to school because I had to help my mom pay the rent”. Hernandez was eventually arrested for his activities and sentenced to prison.

Tekashi began his career as a rapper in 2014 releasing songs like ‘69’ and ‘Scumlife’. He is one of the artists to gain fame through the use of social media. His debut single “Gummo” which was released on November 10, 2017, peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum by RIAA.

In 2018, he released his debut mixtape Day69 which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. The two songs ‘Billy’ and ‘Rondo’ from the album debuted on the No. 50 and No. 73 respectively on Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In July 2018, he released a song ‘Fefe’ featuring Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz. The single peaked at No. 3 in its second week making Hernandez’s highest entry on the chart and his first single to reach top five of the Hot 100. After that singles like ‘Bebe’ and ‘Stoopid’ also reached the top 30 of the Hot 100 chart.

3. His rise has been continued with controversy at every turn.

Tekashi69 is not short of controversy. Here are some of the lists of the controversies the rapper has endured in the past:

  • In February 2018, he was assaulted by several men outside LA airport after his beef with Trippie Redd on Instagram. Tekashi later accused Trippie Redd of having pedophilic sexual relations with rapper Danielle Bregoli who was minor at that time. However, Trippie Redd denied those allegations.
  • He once faked his own death on Instagram. In a video posted to Instagram in December, he is seen in a hospital bed with an entire body covered by a white sheet. The video’s narrator says “Rest in peace my man 6ix9ine. Rest in peace 6ix9ine, you a legend”.
  • In 2018, he was involved in a feud with rapper Chief Keef, Lil Reese, and Tadoe. In February 2019, he pled guilty to ordering the shooting of Chief Keef. He offered his associate ‘Kooda B’ McKenzie $20,000 to shoot at Chief Keef.
  • He was also accused of Choking out a fan at a Mall during a meet-up with Ugly God.
  • In November 2019, he was indicted in federal court on charges including armed robbery, involvement in shootings and drug trafficking.
  • He was also sentenced to four years of probation and a thousand hours of community service for having sex with 13 years old girl when he was 18 years old. He even recorded that video and put it on the Internet.

5. Tekashi69 was Robbed of $750,000 during a Kidnapping

6ix9ine was kidnapped, pistol-whipped and robbed. The gunmen took around $750K in jewelry and between $15k and $20K in cash. According to TMZ, the rapper was working on a music video in Brooklyn and the 3 hooded gunmen got out of the car, grabbed and pistol-whipped him, knocking him unconscious.
