Hill started her career working in the research department at the John F. Kennedy School of Government from 1991 to 1999. From 2006 to 2009, she worked at the National Intelligence Council as a national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia. In 2017, Hill took a leave of absence from the Brookings Institution where she worked as the director for the Center on the United States and Europe. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the board of trustees of the Eurasia Foundation.

From 2006 to 2009, Fiona Hill served as an intelligence officer under President George W. Bush and Barack Obama. In 2017, she was appointed as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for European and Russian Affairs by President Donald Trump. She resigned from her position in August 2019 and was replaced by Tim Morrison who later resigned on October 31, 2019.

In addition to her political career, she has also written books like “The Siberian Curse: How Communist Planners Left Russia Out in the Cold”, “Energy Empire: Oil, Gas and Russia’s Revival”, and “Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin”.
