Deval Patrick is an American politician, lawyer, businessman, and author. He served as the 71^st Governor of Massachusetts from 2007 to 2015. As of 2019, Deval Patrick net worth is estimated to be $4 million.

Patrick was born on July 31, 1956, in Chicago to Emily Mae and Pat Patrick. Patrick’s father was a jazz musician in Sun Ra’s band and had a strained relationship with him. So, he was mostly raised by his mother.

Patrick graduated from Milton Academy in 1974 becoming the first one to attend college from his family. He graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in English and American literature in 1978. After one year, he joined Harvard Law School where he was elected president of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. He won “Best Oralist” in the Ames Moot Court Competition in 1981.

After graduating from college, he practiced law with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and later joined a Boston law firm where he was named a partner, at the age of 34.

His major political career started in 1994 when Bill Clinton appointed him as the US assistant attorney general for the civil rights division of the United States Department of Justice. At there, he worked on issues related to racial profiling and police misconduct.

In 2005, Patrick announced his candidacy to run for governor of Massachusetts. He ran the campaign against some of the veteran politicians like Thomas Reilly and Chris Gabrielli in the Democratic primary. He secured the nomination winning 49% of the vote. In the general election, he faced Republican Kerry Healey and Independent Christy Mihos. He won the general election with 55% of the vote, becoming the first Democratic governor of Massachusetts since 1991.

Patrick was reelected in 2010 and is the only African American to date to have served as Governor of Massachusetts. He was first elected in 2006, succeeding veteran Mitt Romney who chose not to run for reelection. Patrick served as the governor of Massachusetts from 2007 to 2015. During his tenure, he oversaw the state’s 2006 health care reform program, raised the state’s minimum wage from $8 per hour to $11 per hour and also joined the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In November 2019, Patrick was reported to be considering a presidential bid. The New York Times reported that he is making a late entry into the presidential race.
