Neil Peart was a Canadian musician and writer best known for his work on the rock band Rush. He is considered one of the greatest drummers of all time. Neil Peart net worth before his death is estimated to be $45 million.

Peart was born on September 12, 1952, in Ontario, Canada to Glen and Betty Peart. Neil had an interest in music from an early age. His first exposure to musical training came in the form of piano lessons. During his childhood time, he would do drumming on various objects around the house with a pair of chopsticks. With the drumming on his mind, his parents bought him a drum set for his thirteenth birthday.

After he landed his first drum set, he took various music lessons and began bouncing from band to band while he traveled to many countries at the age of 18. Geddy Lee who is the founder of the band Rush decided to audition him and was impressed with his maniacal style of drumming, reminiscent of The Who’s Keith Moon.

Peart joined the band on July 29, 1974, and hit the road for the group’s U.S. tour just two weeks later. His first recording with the band on album “Fly by Night” came in 1975 which was fairly successful. The album went on to win the Juno Award for the most promising new act. However, their follow-up album “Caress of Steel” received negative reception by both fans and critics. In response to the negativity, Peart responded by penning “2112” on the next album of the same name in 1976. The 20-minute song was highly praised by his fans and it became their breakthrough and gained a huge following in the United States.

Neil was forced to deal with a personal tragedy that shaped his career. In 1997, his daughter Selena Taylor was killed in a car accident and his 22-year marriage ended a month later when his wife died of cancer. He split from the group and spent months traveling the world before deciding to return with the band in 2001. In December 2015, he officially announced his retirement from the musical career.

Peart whose drumming was renowned for its technical proficiency has won several awards and honors throughout his career. He was the best rock drummer in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 2006, and 2008 by Modern Drummer magazine.

On January 7, 2020, Peart died from brain cancer at the age of 67. He was survived by his wife Carrie Nuttall and daughter Olivia.
