Jimmy Hoffa was an American labor union leader. He served as the President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union from 1957 to 1971. Jimmy Hoffa net worth at the time of his death is estimated to be $13 million.

Hoffa was born on February 14, 1913, in Brazil, Indiana to John and Viola Hoffa. His father died in 1920 from lung disease when he was only 7 years old. At the age of 14, he left school and worked full-time manual labor jobs like house painting to support his family.

In 1952, Hoffa was selected as the national vice-president of the Teamsters Union. After that, he became the President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in 1957. When he first came into power, the union had only 70,000 members. Within a few years of his leadership, the number surged to 150,000 then 400,000 and peaking up to million members in 1951.

During his career, Hoffa had faced several major criminal investigations. When John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960, his younger brother Robert F. Kennedy who was Attorney General at that time pursued the strong attack to get Hoffa. Robert Kennedy carried on with a so-called “Get Hoffa” squad of prosecutors and investigators.

In 1964, he was convicted in Tennessee of attempted bribery of grand juror and was sentenced to eight years. He went to jail in 1967 under a 13-year sentence. In 1971, he was pardoned by President Nixon and was released early from prison. After he was released from prison, Hoffa was awarded a Teamsters’ pension of $1.7 million in a one-time lump sum payment.

Hoffa disappeared in 1975 and was declared dead in 1982. In a book written by Charles Brandt “I Heard You Paint Houses: Frank Sheeran and the Closing of the Case on Jimmy Hoffa”, it was claimed that Frank Sheeran who was a longtime friend of Hoffa’s confessed to assassinating him.

Hoffa’s life is now portrayed by Al Pacino in movie “The Irishman” directed by Martin Scorsese. Robert De Niro portrayed the role of Frank Sheeran and Joe Pesci as Russell Bufalino.

Regarding his personal life, Jimmy married Josephine Poszywak in 1936. They had two children together named Barbara and Jimmy Jr.
